Recreating Day Treatment Inside the Jail [CE] Room 102 C Primary Community of Focus: Adult Corrections Overview: This presentation will share the benefits of Los Angeles County’s dorms for the significantly mentally ill inside the jail. Utilizing peer support and increased supervision, these dorms transform many of our unstable patients. They are able to function in a safe dorm setting, become medication compliant and participate in education, programming and social activities. This presentation will cover how this was accomplished without a significant increase in staff and funding; how peers are selected and involved; what programs are offered and what lessons have been learned. Learning Objectives: • Learn the benefits of increased engagement for significantly mentally ill patients. • Explore the possibilities of peer support to extend the services available to patients. • Understand the importance of collaboration between custody and mental health staff and hear examples of a successful process. Moderator: Joan Hubbell , LCSW, Mental Health Director, Correctional Health Services, Los Angeles Department of Health Services, Los Angeles, California Speakers: Hany Awad , Sergent, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Los Angeles, California; Joan Hubbell , LCSW, Mental Health Director, Correctional Health Services, Los Angeles Department of Health Services, Los Angeles, California; Luis Pena , LCSW, Mental Health Program Manager, Correctional Health Services, Los Angeles Department of Health Services, Los Angeles, California Integrated Intelligence: Modernizing Corrections at the Speed of AI Room 101 A Primary Community of Focus: Technology Overview: Corrections has deployed early types of AI for decades: machine learning, decision support, process automation. Now, with agentic AI, we see new tools emerging

every day. While this presents opportunities for every staff member, AI alone promises nothing. Which tools actually work? Which deliver on their claims? This workshop will examine proven agentic AI applications across operations, staffing and crisis response. Each use case has been designed, built and vetted in corrections and human services fields. Attendees will leave understanding not just what AI can do, but what it’s already doing and how to distinguish legitimate advancement from empty marketing. The technology exists. The question is: do you know how to deploy it? Learning Objectives: • Distinguish AI categories and capabilities: Identify differences between machine learning, process automation and agentic AI to evaluate vendor claims against operational needs. • Assess deployment readiness across operational domains: Evaluate AI applications spanning intake, classification, assessments, hiring, staff mental health support, suicide watch, RNA and field operations to determine agency fit. • Recognize implementation requirements: Understand the technical, training and oversight frameworks necessary for successful AI integration at scale. • Navigate ethical and operational risk: Identify potential pitfalls in AI deployment and establish decision-making protocols that maintain accountability and transparency. Moderator: Sean Hosman Speakers: Todd Studley , Director of Human Resources, Florida Department of Corrections; Marguerite (Rita) Crapps , Assistant Deputy Director for Programs and Services, South Carolina Department of Corrections, Batesburg, South Carolina; Kristi Holt , Director of Technology and Innovation, Utah Department of Corrections, Utah
