Reducing Medications of Abuse in Corrections: A Pharmacist-Led Deprescribing Success Story [CE|CME|CERP] Room 103 B Primary Community of Focus: Adult Corrections Overview: This workshop highlights how a pharmacist-led Deprescribing and Medication of Abuse Stewardship Program improved prescribing practices and reduced misuse of high-risk medications across a statewide correctional health system. Developed in response to rising trends of diversion involving agents like gabapentin, bupropion and tramadol, the program integrates a centralized non-formulary review and a pharmacist-led pain management panel. Participants will learn how structured pharmacist oversight, data dashboards and interdisciplinary collaboration enhance safety, guide deprescribing and promote evidence-based care in correctional settings. Learning Objectives: • Describe how a pharmacist-led
prescribing safety within correctional health systems. • Apply strategies for implementing structured medication review processes, data tracking and provider engagement to support deprescribing initiatives. • Evaluate outcome metrics that demonstrate the clinical, operational and safety impact of pharmacist-driven interventions on high-risk medication use.
