Stephanie Skewes (SC) Assistant Deputy Director for Behavioral Health South Carolina Department of Corrections

Dr. Stephanie Skewes has held various positions within the California Department of State Hospitals and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. She was the Assistant Clinical Director at South Carolina’s Sexually Violent Predator Treatment Program. In 2020, she joined the South Carolina Department of Corrections as the Assistant Deputy Director for Behav ioral Health. Skewes holds a doctorate in Clinical and Forensic Psychology and a master’s degree in Forensic Psychology. Dr. Skewes is currently a member of the ACA’s Behavioral Health Committee.

April B. Buckner (TN) Correctional Administrator for Rehabilitative Services Tennessee Department of Correction

April B. Buckner started with the department as a probation/parole officer in 2004. During her tenure, she worked as an offender workforce development/reentry specialist and was promoted to probation/parole manager. She has been in her current role since 2016. Buckner has a BS Degree in business/organizational leadership from Union University and received an Executive Leadership Certificate from Tennessee State University. She is affiliated with the Public Safety Partnership, and the Shelby County Transitional Model Committee. Buckner has played an integral role in structuring multiple reentry initiatives within the department including the Tennessee Reentry Collaborative, the development and imple mentation of six Day Reporting Centers, Community Resource Centers, and Transition Centers.

Ben Stevenson (MD) Director Montgomery County Department of Correction and Rehabilitation (DOCR)

Ben Stevenson began his public safety career as a Correctional Officer in 1996. He transferred to the Community Corrections Division as a Resident Supervisor and a Case Manager and then to Deputy Chief of Security and Facilities at the Pre-Release Center in 2011. He previously served as the Division Chief of Community Corrections. Stevenson currently serves as the Director for the Department of Correction and Rehabilitation (DOCR). Stevenson has two master’s degrees in education and distance education from the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) and a bachelor’s degree in administration of justice from Penn State University. Stevenson has served as an auditor with the American Cor rectional Association (ACA).
