The Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services is proud to be the host of the American Correctional Association (ACA) 2024 Winter Conference at National Harbor, Maryland. As Secretary of the Department, I am delighted to welcome you to this conference. Corrections, Detention, Juvenile Services, and Community Supervision agencies are integral aspects of Public Safety that do not always receive the professional respect warranted by the critical missions they carry out. Our staff are the foundation of public safety, and they work tirelessly to ensure that supervision, risk assessments, transitional needs, and appropriate programming and services are available to our clients. We understand that what we do is the catalyst for positive change, rebuilding communities and supporting the family structure as we work to “leave no one behind.” Our staff postures themselves with respect, integrity, and accountability. It is our pleasure to serve as your host this year, and my DPSCS family looks forward to networking with esteemed colleagues from the American Correctional Association (ACA) as we showcase Maryland and learn best practices and phenomenal ideas from colleagues in other states. Let us continue to work together and come together to be innovative to affect change and improve how we detain, incarcerate, and supervise individuals. Have a great conference, and I hope you get a chance to explore some of the wonderful culture Maryland has to offer.
