Room: National Harbor13 Overt sexism is no longer socially acceptable; however, research indicates women encounter “subtle sexism” in the form of gender microaggressions, especially in male-dominated environments such as corrections. This workshop will define gender microaggressions experienced by women in corrections, how their negative physical and psychological impact on women in the corrections workforce contribute to job burnout and turnover, as well as provide practical recommendations for inclusivity and a more effective workforce. Learning Objectives: • Define gender microaggressions and the

Double Bind and cite factors specifically within corrections contributing to their occurrences. • Present specific examples from the corrections research literature of gender microaggressions, the Double Bind constellation and how they contribute to job burnout and turnover in the female correctional workforce. • Identify how individuals and organizations can take practical steps to decrease subtle sexism within corrections to develop a more inclusive and productive workplace.
