A-4K Integrating Spirituality in the Correctional Environment Track: ACA Resources Room: National Harbor 8 This workshop, facilitated by Active-Duty Army officers, will provide correctional professionals with a basic understanding of spirituality, and explore how spirituality can contribute to inmate care and rehabilitation. Facilitators will highlight both clinical and operational considerations and exemplary practices for integrating spirituality. Learning Objectives: • Demonstrate understanding of the concept of spirituality. • Describe how spirituality supports inmate care and rehabilitation. • Identify exemplary practices of applying spirituality within corrections and examine the impact of spirituality on inmate care and reintegration. Moderator: TBD Speakers: Joshua Hornbaker , CH (CPT), United States Disciplinary Barracks Battalion (Corrections), Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; Michael Shipma , CH (CPT), Midwest Joint Regional Correctional Facility, U.S. Army Corrections, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas A-4L Reducing Inmate Idleness Through Talent and Skill Development Track: Reentry/Community Corrections Room: National Harbor 9 In an effort to combat idleness, promote wellness programs and foster talent development among the incarcerated, the Florida Department of Corrections has implemented several skilled statewide talent competitions. The department hosts masonry, culinary and talent competitions for the inmate population on an annual or semi-annual basis. The goal of the competitions is to provide a platform for inmates to be able to express their individual talents and skills, while reducing idleness and increasing self-esteem. Musical and art competitions presently exist with plans to expand and include other talents.
