Turnover rates in Georgia have dropped in the last 3 years and continue to drop monthly because of the initiatives set forth by GDC. This workshop will focus on cultivating a culture of accountability and integrity. Participants will learn how Georgia is using the Results Pyramid and the Steps to Accountability to foster a new culture. Georgia is adjusting the way its employees think and act to reach the key results of 75% Employee Satisfaction, $15 Million Reinvested and a 10% reduction in incidents. The Maine Department of Corrections, in partnership with the Alliance for Higher Education in Prison and Jobs for the future, is piloting fair-wage work-based learning, internships, fellowships, part-time and full-time jobs. The purpose of this presentation is to highlight how success coaching has been instrumental in empowering new officers in corrections. The success coaching program at each Georgia Department of Corrections Basic Officer Training Academy involves individual meetings between a success coach and a cadet. These sessions provide education and career opportunities, as well as a platform for peer support. Additionally, weekly review sessions have been introduced to track cadet progress and address any challenges they may face. The major points of the presentation will include an overview of the success coaching program, the positive outcomes observed in terms of reducing turnover rates and the potential for transforming the culture of corrections in Georgia. The presentation will also discuss the importance of professional development in corrections and how success coaching contributes to this.
