PPWNY and the ECSO have spent the last six years launching and expanding Eric County’s first ever jail-based reentry program. Our speakers will co-facilitate a detailed and interactive presentation focusing on our local jail reentry initiative, Project Blue. The presenters bring both a nonprofit and corrections lens and highlight how important this partnership is. This session cultivates increasing knowledge of and skill in jail reentry and the importance of pre and post release case management services. This presentation will give an overview of how the program operates, the staffing structure, budget and outcomes thus far. Moderator: Hon. Workforce Development and the Positive Impact on Incarcerated Individuals Room 203-AB This presentation is going to highlight the positive impact of Workforce Development within Correctional Industries. We will feature three Correctional Industry business operations. We will discuss how their training, skills development, employment opportunities and post-release employer partners are making a difference not only to the incarcerated individuals but also in their communities. This presentation will include success stories and you will hear from the incarcerated individuals themselves how Correctional Industries Workforce Development has positively changed their lives. Moderator: Amy Pataluna , Executive Director, National Correctional Industries Association, Baltimore, Maryland Speakers: Jamie Dolan , Director, Washington State Correctional Industries, Tumwater, Washington; Dmetria Gibson , Chief Transition Officer, General Counsel, TRICOR, Nashville, Tennessee; Travis Hall , Assistant Bureau Chief, Ohio Penal Industries, London, Ohio The Power of Prison Education: A Multidisciplinary Perspective on Education Outcomes Room 202-B This panel session will summarize evidence-based research outcomes and updates on practices in prison education. Research emphases will include reductions in recidivism, increased desistance, employability upon release, improvement in mental health and other objective measures of change. The range of educational practices will be discussed from basic literacy to baccalaureate and master’s level study. An update on the increase in post-secondary education offerings resulting from Pell Grants will be provided.
