D-2G Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) within Pennsylvania (PA) State Prisons ( Y CE, CE, CME, CERP) Track: Medical Room 203-B The opioid epidemic has disproportionately affected the life expectancy of justice-involved people, largely due to risks associated with reentry following incarceration. Once released, formerly incarcerated people face many barriers. The PA Department of Corrections (DOC) has implemented MAT within its correctional facilities to help improve the reentry process and reduce mortality rates. Learning Objectives: • Individuals will be able to better understand why MAT is considered an evidence-based intervention. • Individuals will understand how to implement MAT within correctional settings, and the challenges associated with such implementation. • Individuals will better understand the barriers to successful reentry, especially for those suffering from opioid addiction.
