Staples-Horne , M.D., Medical Director, Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice, Atlanta, Georgia C-1I COVID-19 Detection and Mitigation in Confinement Facilities (CDMCF) in Prisons and Jails: Preparing for the Next Pandemic ( Y CE, CE, CME, CERP) Track: Medical Room 204-B The CDMCF Program was created by the American Rescue Plan Act in 2021 in order to support COVID-19 detection and mitigation activities in confinement facilities including jails and prisons. The funding is authorized through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, working with the Bureau of Justice Assistance as a partner. The funding under this project was distributed to all state health departments, U.S. territories and several county jurisdictions. In addition to personnel and equipment, a significant component of this project is allocated to training and technical assistance for confinement facilities. Much of this funding remains unspent.

C-1H I Can’t Eat That (CE, CME) Track: Medical Room 204-A
Whether it’s for religious, moral, or health reasons, certain foods are off-limits for some people. Therefore, knowing about your patient’s dietary restrictions is key to successful medical management in correctional settings. The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice in association with Augusta University Department of Juvenile Justice Health Services implemented a statewide program to manage special diets and food allergies among the juvenile detainees across the state. Learning Objectives: • Identify therapeutic diets and food allergies. • Develop electronic systems to record data. • Execute programs to properly communicate with security, dietary and volunteer services staff.
