There are several models psychologists have used to try and consolidate resources to treat both conditions. This presentation will discuss obstacles to effective care in the corrections system and possible ways to overcome the obstacles. The Parallel and Integrated model will be presented with other evidence-based approaches that could be used in a correctional setting. Treating both disorders creates a need for adaptability, individualization and flexibility in programs. It also dictates committed staff who understand how illegal substances and mental health problems often have interplay as inmates get high to try and medicate their uncomfortable mental health symptoms. Learning Objectives: • Participants will learn the benefits and costs of a Parallel Treatment model. • Participants will learn the benefits and costs of an Integrated Treatment model.

• Participants will learn evidenced-based strategies to reduce risk and reduce relapse in inmates who suffer from Co-occurring Disorders. • Participants will learn about the interaction between Co-occurring Disorders and self-medication and managing the intersection in a justice-involved population.
