Speaker: Johnny Frambo , Chief of Chaplaincy Services, Florida Department of Corrections, Tallahassee, Florida C-2F Filling the Void for Correctional Officer Vacancies Track: Prisons/Jails Room 203-A At the 2022 ACA Winter Conference the workshop titled, “Collateral Damage: The Crisis in Correctional Officer Vacancies,” examined the severe shortage of correctional officers across the U.S. and the impact shortages were having on correctional facilities. This workshop is a follow-up to that workshop and will focus on what three correctional agencies have learned over the last 18 months and what these agencies are doing to create innovative approaches to attract and retain a qualified workforce of corrections professionals. Panel members will discuss the tools and technologies their agencies are using to address these workforce challenges, reduce overtime and promote employee wellness. Learning Objectives: • Identify new recruitment and retention approaches being used by federal and state correctional agencies and community corrections organizations. • Discuss why current recruitment and retention efforts are not meeting the demand for a qualified workforce in institutional and community corrections.

• Understand how successful recruitment and retention strategies can have a direct impact on employee wellness. Moderator: Zachary B. Peters , Director, Federal Bureau of Prisons, Washington, D.C.; Ramona Wheeler , Chief Human Resources Officer, Alvis, Inc., Columbus, Ohio C-2G Emerging Trends in Correctional Health Care and Medicine (CE, CME) Track: Medical Room 203-B This workshop will discuss current and emerging correctional best practices in the advancement of correctional health care to provide well intentioned care to our patients. It will discuss new practices that will enhance the knowledge of medical and behavior providers to promote education and treatment to our patients. It will discuss the new and current guidelines that can be adopted in any system. Practical applications from the workshop can be adopted in one’s facilities. Learning Objectives: • Participants will be able to discuss current practices guidelines in their practice as well as new treatments plans. • Participants will have an understanding of new trends in correctional medicine that can be applied to the care of their patients.
