Learning Objectives: • Participants will be able to recognize and identify deviant or potentially disruptive behavior and the level of behavioral intervention that is warranted (Detect and Notify). • Participants will be able to employ methods to minimize flow of disruption into other areas/cells (isolate and contain). • Participants will be able to identify action steps available to defuse or deescalate the situation until arrival of responders. The session will focus on new types of synthetics, increasing prevalence of stimulants, and how corrections can interact with DEA offices. When first responders encounter illicit substances, they must be aware of the risk of exposure and how to decrease distribution throughout a facility. B-2A Leveraging Passion into Productivity: The Role of the Volunteer and COVID-19 Room 125B Track: Prisons A panel from Prison Fellowship will present how the role of volunteers supports the efforts of correctional staff in leveraging the passion of the volunteer into productive programs. Learning Objectives: • Understand how volunteers are engaged and supported to guide program participants inside correctional facilities, including how to pivot volunteer engagement virtually during COVID-19 restrictions. • Appreciate the value of passionate volunteers and the positive impact they have within the realm of correctional facilities and outside communities. • Summarize the roles volunteers play in programming and use of virtual resources. To ensure the safety and security of the staff and offenders, it is important correctional staff recognize and identify potential disruptive behavior and respond with an appropriate level of intervention required to return to normal facility operations.
