Prisons, and especially Jails, are tasked with caring for and managing every justice involved individual that comes “in through the front door”. Often, this includes psychologists and other behavioral and medical health professionals caring for individuals with a significant and detectable physical or behavioral health disease burden, and frequently ill-health. Chronic, and especially acute patient conditions, require a measured, standardized process of early review that detects and treats a variety of disease states to include serious mental illness, traumatic brain injuries, intellectual deficits, aging, withdrawal management, diabetes, TB, HIV, etc. Through careful, coordinated communication and care staff ensure a safe environment for all those who enter “through the front door”.
