Response to Disruptions through Behavioral Intervention

This plenary will present ACA’s updated Public Policy titled “Behavioral Intervention”. Members of the Ad Hoc Committee who worked on the policy will discuss specific aspects of the new policy. The terminology “use of force” has been eliminated from the public policy and presenters will discuss options to insure less injury to staff and to incarcerated persons.

1. Assist correctional employees in responding, whenever possible, with alternatives to the use of force for disruptive behavior of incarcerated persons. 2. Define terminology and techniques of behavioral intervention in correctional facilities. 3. Assist in reducing injury to both staff and incarcerated persons through the use of behavioral intervention. 4. Promote the use of multidisciplinary teams, both treatment and security, in dealing with disruptive incidents in correctional systems.
