This session will introduce #PrisonersToo, a culture change initiative in two South Carolina women’s prisons inspired by #MeToo. #PrisonersToo
provides incarcerated survivors the opportunity to create art that represents the trauma they have experienced and their journey to healing — and gives people in the community the opportunity to share messages of support. One of the project’s champions — the Associate Warden for Programs and PREA Compliance Manager at South Carolina’s Leath Correctional Institution — will share the programs and activities that have been sparked by this cultural transformation. Learning Objectives: • Understand how a trauma-informed culture supports survivors of trauma to heal. • Identify the ways that trauma-informed community-based advocacy partners that can conduct therapeutic art and wellness programming.
