We will identify negotiation techniques to deal with those challenges and how we might leverage emotion in these situations. We will also discuss influence strategies in a negotiation setting. This workshop will utilize video clips to bring the content to life and we will share best practices from professional conferences and readings. We will share books and resource information for future use and reference. B-2H Navigating from Intake to Release: Employment focused with Multi-Agency Resources Room 5A The Minnesota Department of Correction’s (MN DOC) Education unit created a Master Plan to help

offenders create goals upon entering the prison system, and how to plan their time to prepare for a career while inside the fences. MN DOC Education has created an intake program for every incoming offender, and a transfer process for maintaining communications with them as they move within the system. To support this process, career navigator positions were developed to focus towards progress. Partnering with multiple state agencies, business/industry experts, community-based organizations, and private employers, connections being made have created opportunities for employment hiring prior to release. Learning Objectives: • Understand how preparation for release can start at intake. • Use partnerships to support transitioning back to the communities. • Know how employment opportunities can be created prior to release. B-2J Launching a Sustainable Gardening Program within a Correctional Facility: Benefits, Challenges, and Lessons Learned Room 10 A small number of correctional

facilities have had measurable success using gardening programs to help lower recidivism rates and address physical and mental health issues of inmates; however, this form of mediation has had little fanfare as an effective intervention. This workshop will describe first-hand experience of setting up a sustainable gardening program within a correctional facility and outline the steps in developing and implementing a pilot program.
