B-2A Gender Dysphoria in Corrections: A Clinical and Legal Update (CE, Y CE, CME) Room 2 The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual — 5 th Edition (DSM-5) includes specific criteria for a diagnosis of Gender Dysphoria (GD). This presentation will review

correctional facility including the construction of an in-house DEA regulated comprehensive opioid treatment center. The MASS MAT Pilot Program was passed to combat the opioid crisis in prison settings and the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office (MSO) took the lead in adding the pilot required FDA medications Suboxone and Methadone to its national recognized Vivitrol program. And the MSO MATADOR (Medication Assisted and Directed Opioid Recovery) Program was born. The challenges were many but as a dynamic team we succeeded in creating this new world of correctional medical care and treatment. the DSM-5 criteria for GD and the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) Standards of Care. Currently at the Federal Court level there are conflicting findings in the 5 th Circuit and the 9 th Circuit Court of Appeals increasing the likelihood that the question of gender confirmation surgery will be heard by the Supreme Court. This presentation will review these and other legal cases. Learning Objectives: • Participants will understand the diagnostic criteria for Gender Dysphoria and the diagnostic criteria for disorders that require consideration as alternative explanations for the patient. • Participants will gain an understanding of the World Professional Association • Participants will gain an understanding of the current state of litigation over gender confirmation surgery throughout the United States.
