2020 ACA San Diego Program Book_Winter Conference
(WIOA) out of a school youth program and aWIOA adult/dislocated worker programs. Through this workshop, the participants will discuss best practices for partnership with State Commerce, workforce development, and employers. Additionally, we will navigate various rules, regulations of WIOA and County detention operations. Our first hosted hiring event inside of a facility had 31 participates, and of them, 19 were offered employment upon release within 90 days. The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office hopes that in the future there will be change in the narrative on incarceration, a recidivism reduction, and employment opportunities for returning citizens. Learning Objectives: • Reduce recidivism by providing employment opportunity prior to release learn the rules, regulations of WIOA and detention operations. • Provide workshops, skills/job training opportunities, essential skills and develop a transition plan prior to release.
• Develop true partnership with agencies that provide supportive and wrap around services.
