Trauma-informed care principles can be applied within corrections to reduce unintentionally triggering reminders of traumatic events or the hopelessness that an offender experiences when they experience a trauma. Learning Objectives: • Define TIC principles and discuss the impact for staff and inmates. • Discuss gender differences in trauma responses between male and female inmates. • Discuss how TIC improves criminal justice responses. The program is a collaborative between the Louisiana Department of Health and the Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections. In 2019, the LSU Center for Healthcare Value and Equity evaluated the program to assess and describe its effects on Medicaid enrollment for formerly incarcerated persons, trends in and frequency of health care services post-release and identify potential areas for quality improvement. In this presentation, we will provide an overview of program structure, evaluation findings, lessons learned, and recommendations for other states implementing or considering a similar program. B-1E Managing Disruptive Behavior: Understanding the Cause and Strategies to Manage It (CE, Y CE) Room 11B This session is currently being facilitated during ACA’s Correctional Behavioral Health Certification program. In this session,

participants will better understand disruptive behaviors in the jail and prison environment. Participants will be able to recognize the common personality disorders associated with disruptive behaviors and identify key components of a Behavior Management Plan. The session will consist of a lecture format followed by a practical exercise where a Behavior Management Plan is created. This session will offer the participants an opportunity to learn additional strategies to manage disruptive offenders. Learning Objectives: • Understand disruptive behavior. • Recognize the common personality disorders associated with disruptive behaviors. • Participants will understand the components of a behavior management plan.
