Public attitudes and local legislation about energy use are rapidly changing; state and city governments are increasingly adopting requirements for buildings to report on their energy use. These utilities are often seen as fixed costs in the budget – unavoidable and unmanageable – adding up to nearly $1 billion annually nationwide (Stephen, 2004). The Department of Energy (DOE) is developing a technical assistance program to help correctional agencies track and manage their energy and water use and plan infrastructure upgrades. This workshop will share updates on relevant national trends, highlight resources currently available, share experiences from other states, and solicit input for DOE’s technical assistance program for corrections.

Workshops Saturday, Jan. 11 t 4–5:30 p.m.
