Some changes are quicker than others and some made rapidly, especially within smaller organizations, but to the majority out there it seems change is impossible at worst and extremely difficult at best. Through three programs at the US Army Mid-West Joint Regional Correctional Facility (Agriculture, Canine, and Vocational), this workshop will examine lessons learned from successful implementation and correctional management. Learning Objectives: • Identify the process for gaining momentum and a guiding coalition for new programs. • Recognize areas where growth can be made. • Identify programs that can further correctional missions. The YMCA Y-Achievers program is the first inside of a detention facility and teaches life skills/ youth development. Barber School created for stimulate brain and cognitive functions as well as build teamwork which helps teens and facility in managing youth. • How daily inspirational quotes encourage officers and youth to hold positive conversations. • Uniform change to polo shirts and khakis changes the youth and staff perspective and programs teach entrepreneurship/ skills. A-3H Reimaging Detention and Restoring Hope for Youthful Offenders Room 5A Youth population has been denied the opportunity to enjoy physical activity outside for 19 years. Camp Cradle, an outdoor recreation program, launched in June 2019 and youth play football, badminton, corn hole and other sports and take a break during program hours. Green jumpsuits are worn for recreation. A local vendor provides youth with sneakers for the activities. A local vendor also provides polo

These strategies must constantly evolve and must be continually evaluated to ensure effectiveness. The inmate-perpetrated harassment of officers is an issue in many correctional institutions.
