A-2B Dynamic Security : Using Behavior Modification to Enhance Safety in Your Facility (CE) Room 4 Dynamic Security is a correctional principle successfully used in Norway that has been introduced into the North Dakota prison system. Dynamic Security focuses on all staff members building rapport with residents of a prison with the intention of changing behavior. This workshop will provide examples proving that dynamic security can improve restrictive housing units by engaging correctional officers in behavior change activities. We will present case examples with data to show that these integrated behavioral health and custody teams create the environment that reliably fosters dramatic, measurable, and sustained improvement in resident behavior. In addition, a field training officer from the North Dakota State Penitentiary will guide participants through the process of incorporating dynamic security principles into initial officer training. Learning Objectives: • Incorporate positive behavior reports into prison modification systems utilizing the information, knowledge, and forms provided at this session. • Learn the specific methods to build positive rapport with residents in order to improve conditions in prison housing units, including restrictive housing units. • Incorporate dynamic security principles into field training programs.
