A-1A Improving Outcomes, Engagement & Staffing (CE, CERP, Y CE)

Room 2 Having employees consistently engaged in their working environment can be a challenge regardless of the setting. Given the uniquely stressful characteristics of the correctional environment, this becomes much more difficult and leads to problems with recruitment, retention and staff productivity at all levels. One way to counteract this is to conscientiously and consistently develop a culture of positive interactions and clear, outcome driven expectations. This presentation will provide an overview of an approach to build positivity in the workplace through systematic communication, goal setting and connecting these to the employees’ daily workplace behaviors. Learning Objectives: • Understand how to create a positive environment for staff. • Relate how a positive supervisory process increases staff retention. • Connect the work staff to positive outcomes for offenders and themselves.

A-1B Infectious Disease Outbreaks? Be Prepared! (CE, CME, CERP)

Room 4 Come on a journey with the Ohio

Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (DRC), as we tell you a story about infectious disease outbreaks in our prison system. Hear how we identified, responded to, and controlled various infectious disease outbreaks at the institution and statewide level. Joined by our public health partners, we navigated communication inside and outside the fence, as we all worked together to successfully manage a “rash” of activities throughout the occurrences.  Learning Objectives: • Become familiarized with Ohio DRC’s outbreak plans of action and the steps taken throughout the plans. • Exchange information regarding outbreak initiatives within their system.
