Volunteers of America

In 1896, co-founder Maud Booth responded to a letter written to her from a prisoner in Sing Sing. Known as the “Little Mother” to prisoners, she pledged her support to the incarcerated by becoming a leader in the field of correctional services, innovating and providing programs and services that would help them rebuild their lives…change for the better…and return to their families and communities. 121 years later, we are still honoring that pledge.
