Performance Standard 7B: Academic and Vocational Education
Certification and Evaluation 5-ACI-7B-05 (Ref. 4-4470)
Written policy, procedure, and practice provide that the academic and voca- tional education programs are recognized, certified, or licensed by the state department of education or other recognized agency having jurisdiction. Pro- grams up to the completion of high school and/or the GED are available at no cost to inmates.

5-ACI-7B-06 (Ref. 4-4471)
Written policy, procedure, and practice provide for a system whereby the aca- demic and vocational training programs are assessed against stated objectives by qualified individuals, professional groups, and trade associations; this as- sessment is done at least every three years. Comment : Such assessment ensures the institution’s academic and vocational train- ing programs are accepted by licensing boards and trade associations, and helps indicate which programs should be expanded and which should be revised.

Staffing Policies and Practices 5-ACI-7B-07 (Ref. 4-4472)
All academic and vocational education personnel are certified by a state de- partment of education or other comparable authority.
Comment : All teachers, supervisors, and administrators should be certified and should receive additional training to meet the special needs of inmates. Policies should also provide for emergency or temporary certification to facilitate hiring qualified personnel who lack complete or current certification.
