General Session

One of President Robinson’s initiatives as ACA President has been wellness. She asked Misty about the importance of wellness and Misty said “If you aren’t taking care of yourself, it’s impossible to do anything else!” Developing resilience was a key theme the two touched on again and again. Misty relayed some advice she has given to younger dancers about resilience: “It’s so important to experience life. Yes, you have to put in the hours. I was in the studio re hearsing eight hours a day, five to six days a week but you also have to experience life. How else are you going to build that resilience, to have experi ences to pull from to become an artist?”

Misty then answered some questions from the audience. She was asked about advice she would give to lift up others. “It can be such a beautiful experience when you support each other when you are there when things are tough and knowing you can’t do this alone,” she replied. The assembly warmly received Misty’s engag ing and heartfelt talk. All that was left was to close another great General Session and usher the attendees down to the opening of the vast exhibit hall.
