OFFICE OF CORRECTIONAL HEALTH

but allows ample opportunity for general discussion. The success of the HDCR program was the op portunity for each nurse manager to share their perspective on best practices within their facilities and to learn from each other during the week. They were able to share and learn as much from each other as the instructors facilitated their discus sions. While some practices could work for some nurse managers, it could not work for all. For example, how many facilities do you know that have developed an emergency plan to evacuate the facility in the event of a volcano eruption? (which happened in September 2023). ACA provides a study guide for the certified correctional nurse

manager program. The course can be taken as part of a group as in HDCR or individually. The certification proctored examina tion is taken upon completion of the course and or study guide and based upon the nurse’s/team’s schedule. Healthcare leadership at HDCR is so committed to the success of their team and accredita tion that the Health Authority will approve any student who scores at 90% or above on the exam the opportunity to attend the 155 th Congress of Correction in Denver, Colorado, in August 2025 at no cost to the nurse. The nurse man agers were so confident of their high scores that they were already planning their trip to Denver in

August. So, hats off to you, the Nurse Managers for the HDCR for our dedication and professionalism as you serve the offender popula tion across the beautiful islands of Hawaii!! Aloha!!
