of activities that kept participants moving. Every morning of the Congress, early birds practiced yoga for an hour before any of that day’s sessions began. After the proceedings for the day began, conference goers were treated to a wide variety of stations in the expo including a place for a quick health screening with some health professionals taking blood pressure readings, trying some mindfulness activities or learning about nutrition options for a healthier lifestyle. For many Congress attendees, a highlight of the Health and Wellness activities was the Rocky Walk Wellness Challenge early Saturday morning August 12. Conference goers trekked a few blocks from the Pennsylvania Conference Center to the steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum where the 72 “Rocky Steps” are located. A bronze statue of the famed Philadelphia-based character created by Sylvester Stallone sits at the bottom of the steps and provided a perfect starting point for the day’s activities. The Health and Wellness Expo is part of ACA’s commitment to helping correctional staff be the best they can be. Health issues for correctional staff often get laid to the side with the constant demands placed on correctional staff and the Health and Wellness Expo is just one resource for correctional staff to use to lead a healthier lifestyle.
