Harbans S. Deol, D.O., Ph.D. (NE) Medical Director, Health Services Nebraska Department of Corrections (NDCS)

Dr. Harbans S. Deol joined NDCS in January 2017 as a medical director of Health Services. He oversees all aspects of health care and assists in educating state agency staff and other agencies in health care challenges in the correctional environment. He was instrumental in implementing efficiency of Health Services by reducing the cost of pharmaceuticals by 33.4%, reduced the use of narcotics by 87% and travel orders by 49.7%, during his first year of tenureship. Deol earned his Ph.D. in immunol - ogy and microbiology from New York University, and his D.O. from Des Moines University. Deol was in private practice for over 15 years prior to joining the Iowa DOC. He has conducted research in HCV and HIV using molecular biology techniques as a research scientist in a pharmaceutical company. He has numerous patents and publications in the scientific arena. He is currently chair of CCHA, CME, and has serviced on numerous committees with ACA. He is a member of Health Care Committee and has presented on clinical updates at ACA Conference Workshops.

Robert D. Jones, M.D. (AZ) Retired Colonel Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections

Dr. Robert D. Jones, M.D. has served in corrections for 30 years. Jones is a retired colonel. He has worked extensively in public health as a deputy county public health officer for emergency prepared - ness and response. Jones is currently a clinical associate professor for the University of Arizona Medical School — Phoenix. He graduated from the University of Utah College of Medicine and has served as the medical director for Utah, Montana, and Arizona adult corrections. Jones is a past president for the American Health Services Association and was awarded their Distinguished Service Award. He is a United States Army colonel and was awarded the Legion of Merit and Meritorious Service medals. Jones is a former member of ACA’s Board of Governors and serves on medical, substance abuse, mental health and juvenile committees, along with presenting at numerous ACA conferences.
