Why share these stories with the public? There are books written by those incarcerated and those
who have worked in criminal justice serving agencies. This book provides a humanizing starting point, a basic foundation and a voice to those interacting in various and, sometimes, interlocking ways within the criminal justice arena. There is a human being behind that name, number, shield or badge. The emotional and human toll cannot be minimized whether behind or in front of cell bars. This is a field full of debate at each stage,
which these authors present. If you want your voice heard, come from a place of fact, compassion, grief, understanding and solutions. Perhaps Griffin and Sacks are provoking discussion of the future of rehabilitative measures and encouragement to our future reformers. Their book is a good limited sampling of the corrections field, and raises more questions than answers, which makes it worth reading. u
