individuals, whether they are staff or individuals who are incarcerated, to get better.” Dr. Livers also spoke about her career in cor- rections, which she said she “wouldn’t change anything [she had] ever done.” Dr. Livers gave a humorous and entertaining speech mixed with some serious messages for the audience. She spoke about how her career took her to departments of correction all over the country, which helped her get more involved in ACA and eventually led to her being elected ACA President from 2014-2015. Dr. Livers called serving as ACA president “the highlight of [her] career.” She concluded her speech by thanking vari- ous people who supported her, recognizing her directors she had worked with over her 42 years of service. Dr. Livers gave credit in her career to her many mentors in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Mary- land, Louisiana and ACA, including those who propelled her in her career and her friend who was recognized as her “fashion consultant.” Dr. Livers later told Corrections Today that the evening of recognition was better than anything she could have ever expected and that it was the most fun she ever had giving a speech. The evening concluded with a dessert recep- tion. This gave attendees one last chance to socialize and commemorate the E.R. Cass Award recipients before the 149 th Congress of Correction came to an end.
