demeanor of particular inmates. The impact of trauma upon individuals involved in the incident is also briefly addressed as a consideration for explanation in report writing. Physical responses and extreme responses are presented for consideration. Responses such as immobilization (frozen) are important to consider for officers who are responding to an incident and as it may apply to individuals involved in the incident. This manual can be a very useful training tool for many different corrections audiences as it includes sections for skills practice. A group of poorly written reports are provided

with space in the manual for a rewrite. Some of these “poor” examples include grammar mistakes, inaccurate date and time descriptions, or the improper use of jargon/slang. The manual also includes samples of well-written reports that can be used a template for officers who are struggling with this skill. These reports show proper sentence structure, grammar, and a concise, yet thorough, method of detailing events. The manual includes a section for additional practice with a report writing template and a YouTube link (see: https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=it95-fd3MHY — showing

an inmate who slipped handcuffs). This report writing template includes a section for after-incident plan of action, notes and timeline, and then an area for the actual report. This type of template is helpful to show the process from incident (in this case, the video) to the completion of the report. Whether this manual is used as a training tool for a group of employees or as a method to provide guidance to an individual employee, the manual does a good job of providing the necessary information to help improve anyone’s writing ability.
