Those Congress of Correction attendees not at the reentry symposium, had plenty to keep the busy. Workshops and accreditation manager training began promptly at 8 a.m. At lunchtime, the always popular Health Care Luncheon took place in Davidson Ballroom A. Dr. Rahul Gupta, Director of National Drug Control Policy and Leader of the Office of Nation al Drug Control Policy talked about the opioid crisis and how correctional facilities can respond to the crisis through the use of medication for opioid-use disorders. Workshops and professional development sessions filled the afternoon hours on Thursday leading into the Healthcare Network Reception.
Wednesday with pre-symposium kickoff featur ing retired warden Carlyle Holder and a special reentry networking event. The next day, the Reentry Symposium kicked off with Dr. Kendall Taylor and an array of special presentations focused on the challenges of reentry. The symposium’s keynote speaker, Chef Jeff Henderson, an award-winning chef and bestselling author, delivered an enthusiastic and insightful presentation to a full house.
