2023 ACA Philadelphia Program Book_153rd Congress of Correction

C-4C Help Us, Help You! The Survey of Sexual Victimization, the CJRP and JRFC are All Being REDESIGNED; Hear All the 411! Track: Juveniles Room 201-C The Bureau of Justice Statistics and the U.S. Census Bureau have been working together to redesign the entire SSV for the 2023 Collection, which will begin in the summer of 2024. We are working to include a complete analysis and exploration of new sampling methods for selected samples of the correctional population, a complete overhaul of the survey, cognitive testing of the questionnaires with facility/agency staff and updates to our programming and processing. We will be discussing the proposed changes to the survey and how cognitive testing is being used to support these revisions. In addition, we are also excited to announce, in collaboration with NIJ and OJJDP, we are redesigning the juvenile surveys, CJRP and JRFC. Learning Objectives: • Understand the redesign process and how it will impact their correctional facilities/

agency. We are trying to be transparent with the anticipated changes in the data collection process and hope to gain valid feedback. • Understand how the Cognitive Testing of the survey instruments will be a very useful tool for the survey statisticians to gain an understanding of how agencies and facilities collect their data and its usefulness for future collections. • Ask questions, understand why the SSV, CJRP and JRFC are being redesigned and gain insight into the plans, schedule and analysis efforts. Moderator: Sabrina Webb , M.S., Survey Statistician, U.S. Census Bureau, Washington, D.C.
