C-4A Establishing Key Relationships and Processes to Solve the Challenge of Vital Documents Track: Reentry Room 201-A Michigan received their birth certificate and State ID or Driver’s License as part of their reentry process. Providing vital documents is a significant challenge for many correctional agencies, as it requires formalized relationships with multiple government agencies, as well as strong internal processes to work with thousands of incarcerated individuals each year. This workshop will discuss the MDOC’s vital documents program, the development of key relationships for the issuance of vital documents, internal processes to ensure widespread impact, how to generate stakeholder and legislative support and expected challenges. Learning Objectives: • Identify effective approaches for tracking vital document efforts to ensure maximum impact and ongoing support. • Take steps to develop relationships/ agreements with the state entities responsible for issuing identification documents while building key stakeholder and legislative support. • Structure operations in facilities to reach all incarcerated individuals who need Currently, over 98% of the individuals released from prison within the State of
