PROFESSIONAL BIOGRAPHY
Elias Diggins joined the Denver Sheriff’s Department (DSD) in 1994 as a deputy sheriff and has worked his way up through every rank, becoming the Sheriff in 2020. His journey in the DSD has taken him through various assignments including working in minimum, medium and maximum-security buildings. He also worked in the medical unit, oversaw programs, food service, transportation and was a member of the elite Emergency Response Unit, amongst other duties. Sheriff Diggins is an active member of the American Correctional Association (ACA), previously serving as a member of the Delegate Assembly, the Performance – Based Standards Committee and the Adult Local Detention Committee. His experience includes being an auditor for the Commission on Accreditation for Corrections (CAC), and he was elected to the Commission and served as the Chair. He currently is on the CAC as a Panel Chair. Sheriff Diggins is a former Board Member and a past President of the American Jail Association. He holds a Master of Public Administration Degree from the University of Colorado-Denver and a Bachelor of Science Degree from Metropolitan State University of Denver. He also is a Certified Correctional Executive through the ACA.
