PROFESSIONAL BIOGRAPHY

Sheriff Jose Quiroz moved to Arlington with his family at age five. The son of Honduran immigrants, he attended Arlington Public Schools before graduating from Bishop Denis J. O’Connell High School. He then served four years in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged as a non-commissioned officer in 2001. Sheriff Quiroz joined the Arlington County Sheriff’s Office on September 10, 2001, and graduated from the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academy in 2002. Throughout his career, he has served in corrections, court security, records management, detention operations, supervision, and training leadership roles. As Training Sergeant and later Training Coordinator, he oversaw agency-wide training programs, field training, and professional development initiatives. In January 2023, he was appointed Sheriff of Arlington County, and in November 2023, he was elected as the county’s 19th Sheriff. Sheriff Quiroz made history as the first sheriff of Latino descent in Arlington County and the first elected Latino sheriff in the Commonwealth of Virginia. He remains committed to public service, professional excellence, and community engagement.
