PROFESSIONAL BIOGRAPHY

John P. May, MD, is Chief Medical Officer of Centurion Health and a nationally recognized leader in correctional medicine. A Board-Certified Internal Medicine physician and Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Correctional Physicians, Dr. May brings more than 30 years of experience practicing medicine in jails and prisons. He is a long-standing member of ACA’s Healthcare Committee and currently serves as Chair of ACA’s International Corrections Committee. He is also Program Director for the Nova/Centurion Correctional Medicine Fellowship Program with the Florida Department of Corrections and a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at Nova Southeastern University’s Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine. In 2005, Dr. May co-founded Health through Walls, a nonprofit organization supporting prison health programs in low- and middle-income countries. He currently serves as its President, helping advance care in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Malawi, the Central African Republic, and Mozambique, while providing technical support to correctional health systems around the world. “I am honored to be considered for the ACA Board of Governors and welcome the opportunity to further support ACA’s continued growth, professional standards, and advancement of best practices in corrections.”
