PROFESSIONAL BIOGRAPHY
Byron Wirth has worked in the corrections field since 1998, serving in county jails, probation and parole, and adult institutions throughout Wisconsin. He began his career as a Corrections Officer with the Marathon County Jail before advancing through leadership roles at the Wood County Jail, including Lead Corrections Officer and Corrections Officer in Charge. In these roles, he oversaw daily operations, inmate programming, policy review, emergency planning, volunteer coordination, and reentry initiatives while helping strengthen operational efficiency and community partnerships. He later joined the Wisconsin Department of Corrections as a Probation and Parole Agent, managing specialized caseloads involving sex offenders, mental health supervision, and OWI offenders. During his time in community corrections, he developed expertise in Motivational Interviewing, Smart Supervision, case management, and evidence-based supervision practices designed to support offender accountability and successful reintegration. After approximately eight years as an agent, he promoted to Supervising Officer 2 (Captain), where he oversees daily security operations, staff supervision, policy review, investigations, and PREA-related matters. Wirth currently serves as President-Elect of the Wisconsin Correctional Association and has been actively involved in training and professional development efforts across county, state, federal, and private corrections. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to operational leadership, policy development, staff training, emergency preparedness, and collaborative correctional practices that strengthen public safety and organizational professionalism.
