PROFESSIONAL BIOGRAPHY

Dan Johnson is an accomplished corrections professional with nearly 20 years of experience and currently serves as General Counsel for the Florida Department of Corrections, the third largest state prison system in the nation. He oversees a team of more than 75 legal professionals and directs the Department’s legal strategy, ethics compliance, and policy initiatives. Johnson also serves as Chair of the ACA Legal Issues Committee and previously chaired the Legislative Affairs Committee. A frequent national presenter, he has shared expertise on topics including restrictive housing, grievance procedures, legislative updates, and drone interdiction. Prior to his current role, he served as Deputy General Counsel for Litigation and held leadership positions within the Florida Attorney General’s Office. He earned both his Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor degrees from Florida State University and remains committed to advancing the corrections profession and supporting those who serve within it.
