PROFESSIONAL BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Letunya Walker was born to the parents of the late Mr. Leward Walker and Ms. Claudia Walker. Letunya is a 1986 graduate of the mighty Southwest High School, home of the Patriots in Macon, Georgia. After high school she started a journey of postsecondary education and graduated with a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Middle Grades Education from THE Fort Valley State College. She continued to pursue other graduate degrees and received her Education Specialist Degree in Education Leadership from Troy State University, and a Doctoral Degree in Instructional Leadership from Argosy University. Dr. Walker is a 36-year veteran Educator and has touched the lives of thousands of students throughout her career. Dr. Walker serves as the Deputy Superintendent of Schools for the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice School System. She has served in several capacities throughout her 23-year tenure with DJJ in both teaching and leadership roles. Dr. Walker takes pride in educating the Scholars in DJJ, believing that the Scholars she serve are not defined by their worst decision, but by their potential to change and succeed. Dr. Walker believes that every lesson taught and every educational opportunity provided while entrusted DJJ care, is an opportunity to redirect lives towards a brighter future. Her passion is working with children and youth, especially those that have been written off by society and justice involved. Dr. Walker is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. where she serves a President and is actively involved in community service through this sorority. Dr. Walker has received numerous awards throughout her life which includes 2012-2013 DJJ Teacher of the Year and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Tau Omicron Omega Chapter 2020 Soror of the Year. On December 1, 2025, she was nominated and named a Hidden Hero for the Metro Atlanta Area. This esteemed award speaks to her passion and persistence as a Georgia Educator. Dr. Walker’s assignment in life derives from the scripture Matthew 25:40 she believes “whatever I do for the least of them; I have done it to the Lord”. With this foundational scripture for her life, she strives to reach, teach, nurture, and impart into people, especially young people of all backgrounds and walks of life.
