Morning Session From Chaos to Control: AI at Intake and Classification Intake and classification areas are unpredictable, and even in modern systems, decisions are often made with incomplete information. At the same time, staff are balancing safety, supervision, and documentation for a population that can be volatile and stressed. When properly implemented, AI can support better intake practices rather than trying to paper over existing challenges. This session will explore where AI can change practices for the better, and where we, as an industry, must be wary. Midday Session The Bleeding: How AI Stops the Staffing Hemorrhage We can’t recruit fast enough to replace the trained staff we’re losing. 55% vacancy rates. 48% annual turnover. Officers burning out after only 18 months. AI isn’t replacing anyone’s job, but it can help those in the job do better than survive. It can help staff thrive and bring purpose back to a frustrated and exhausted workforce. Afternoon Session Beyond the Walls: AI in the Field, the Future is Now Past the perimeter, field officers, parole agents, and community corrections staff often work independently and operate with limited immediate support. They routinely make decisions in dynamic situations and often without backup readily available. This session will examine how AI can surface relevant information, reinforce consistent practices, and provide added awareness for staff working alone or with limited resources. Used appropriately, it can contribute to both staff safety and accountability. understAnding Ai in CorreCtions: A ConversAtion
