COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS

Greetings,

On behalf of the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, it is my distinct honor to welcome you to Pittsburgh for the American Correctional Association’s 156th Congress of Correction.

This year’s convening brings us together in a city defined by resilience, shaped by its three rivers, and strengthened by a legacy of perseverance and progress. It is a fitting setting as correctional professionals from across the country gather with one shared purpose: advancing corrections . This conference represents an important opportunity to exchange ideas, explore key issues impacting our field, and strengthen our shared commitment to excellence. From rehabilitation programs and services to mental health and medical initiatives, as well as advancements in technology across all disciplines, the conversations taking place here reflect both the complexity of our work and the innovation driving it forward. In Pennsylvania, we recognize that the work of corrections extends far beyond maintaining safety and security. Each of you plays a critical role in supporting rehabilitation, fostering accountability, and preparing individuals for successful reentry into our communities. Your dedication to this mission reflects the very spirit of this city—resilient, determined, and forward-looking. As you participate in this year’s sessions and discussions, I encourage you to take full advantage of the knowledge and expertise represented here. Just as importantly, I hope you will use this time to connect with colleagues, share experiences, and build relationships that will continue long after the conference concludes. In that spirit of collaboration— many paths, one purpose, advancing corrections —we continue to move our profession forward together. While you are here, I also invite you to experience all that Pittsburgh has to offer. From its rich industrial history to its vibrant neighborhoods, intense love of Pittsburgh sports teams, world-class dining, and scenic riverfronts, the city provides a welcoming and dynamic backdrop for this important gathering. As we like to say here, we are proud to welcome yinz to Pittsburgh and we hope yinz enjoy your time in the Steel City!

Thank you for the work you do each day and for your commitment to advancing the field of corrections. I wish you a productive, engaging, and rewarding conference.

Sincerely,

Dr. Laurel R. Harry Secretary, Pennsylvania Department of Corrections
