EVENTS

Allegheny County Jail — Medical Unit Built in 1995, the Allegheny County Jail (ACJ) is a high-rise, direct-supervision jail with a capacity of approximately 3,000 individuals located in downtown Pittsburgh. Incarcerated individuals committed by the Courts are housed at the ACJ facility and at an alternative housing facility – one of which is next door to the jail. The Pittsburgh Municipal Court building connects to the jail through an enclosed breezeway enabling quick transfers between the jail and the court building. In addition to the ground floor, which contains the jail’s intake department, supply area and kitchen, the facility has 16 floors – eight main floors and eight mezzanine levels. Level 1 holds most of the facility’s programming areas, including the Re-Entry Center, the Education Center and the Chapel. Most of the administrative staff offices are located on Level 1M, which also houses Shift Command, Central Control and the Officer Dining Room. Levels 2-8 are primarily utilized for housing units with some administrative offices on each level. The medical tour will include areas where health services are focused including intake and level 5, which includes the jail’s medical and mental health housing units along with the jail’s healthcare clinic.
