The rise of high-cost complex therapies has led to newly FDA-approved specialty treatments ranging from $10,000 to $7,000,000 per patient annually. The high costs of medications in the United States make them inaccessible to many patients. Pharmaceutical manufacturers offer patient assistance programs (PAPs) to lower the cost-sharing burden for uninsured patients. This presentation will discuss the process of identifying patients and applying to individual manufacturer assistance programs, including record-keeping, application completion, maintenance paperwork, process management
and tracking demonstrated in making this a successful initiative within the Georgia Department of Corrections. This presentation will review the research literature on suicide in corrections including risk, protective and environmental factors. Traditionally correctional systems have responded to individuals at risk for suicide by placing the individual in the most restrictive setting possible.
