Do You Stay or Do You Go? Understanding the Reality for Juvenile Victims of Human Trafficking Room W232 B/C Overview: Participants will engage in our Stay or Go activity which simulates the experience of a juvenile victim who is experiencing trafficking. This interactive activity will walk us through ways to recognize signs of trafficking, understand the dynamics of exploitation, build empathy with those who may experience trafficking and highlight the intersection of human trafficking and justice involved youth. During this session, participants will learn the basics of human trafficking, including the definition of human trafficking, what to do if you suspect there are concerns of human trafficking and existing resources. This session will highlight the issue of labor trafficking including methods such as forced criminality and gang involvement. Attending this workshop is also relevant for those working in adult corrections but the activity is focused on the experience of a juvenile. Leading for Change: How Corrections Supervisors Build and Sustain a Healthy Culture of Safety and Wellness Room W230 B Overview: This presentation places a strong emphasis on proven leadership principles and characteristics that promote building and sustaining a healthy workplace culture. Correctional supervisors have one of our profession’s most challenging yet rewarding jobs. The traditional role of a supervisor is to manage or hold staff accountable for achieving performance measures and adherence to all organization policies and procedures. However, the role of a supervisor is much broader. An effective supervisor maintains compliance with agency policy and procedures and creates a healthy workplace culture that values building relationships, continuous learning, accountability, trust, fairness, opportunity and empowerment.
