(also contracted with Core Civic to provide reentry services), Atlanta, Georgia and Spotlight on Successful Implementation [CE/CERP] Room W230 B Overview: One of the fundamental challenges jails, prisons and community supervision agencies face in today’s environment is trying to balance the mandate of providing a safe and secure environment with the humane approach of expanding access to treatment. This workshop will explore the resources available to the field in its effort to expand access to evidence-based treatment to address substance use disorder (SUD), behavioral health and co-occurring challenges. The workshop will bring to the forefront the federal grant program known as the Comprehensive Opioid and Stimulant Substance Use Program (COSSUP) that has been used by agencies around the country to pilot efforts to address substance use disorder. highlight two successful programs initiated with COSSUP funding, both of which have incorporated treatment technologies, data, and evidence-based strategies to address SUD and behavioral health. Learning Objectives: • Present the federal Comprehensive Opioid and Stimulant Substance Use Program (COSSUP) administered by the Bureau of Justice Assistance as a resource to jails, prisons and community supervision agencies around the country. Additional resources will be discussed including peer-to-peer exchanges and no-cost training and technical assistance. • Introduce two site-based programs that have utilized federal funding to pilot innovative programming that incorporates the use of technology, medication-assisted treatment and data collection/analysis to combat substance use disorder. • Engage session participants on lessons learned from the field around applying for and receiving federal funding, requesting no-cost training and technical assistance, applying to visit a peer site to learn about substance use disorder programming and medication-assisted treatment and learning about resources available such as the withdrawal management guidelines.
