Risk factors for obesity in corrections include exposure to violence and trauma; and stress and anxiety that promote poor health behaviors. Corrections workers tend to underreport their stress and negative emotions which may restrict their access to resources for healthy coping strategies. Unhealthy lifestyle behaviors are further reinforced by long work shifts, sedentary tasks, limited food options and stressful work environments. The focus of this workshop is to provide a holistic approach to improve nutrition specific to corrections worker health. In this panel, we hope to inspire corrections workers to make slight changes to improve their health and well-being.
