Continuing Education Programs for Treatment Professionals Target Population: Nurses, physicians, psychologists, dentists and social workers. Educational Objectives: At the conclusion of this activity, the participants will be able to: • Demonstrate competence in the limitations of correctional medicine concerning specific aspects of patient care. • Determine those inmates/detainees who have a constitutional right to health care and at what level care must be provided. • Choose between differing approaches to medical, mental health and substance abuse problems suffered by inmates. Physicians/Mid-Level Providers (CME) The American Correctional Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Physicians can earn up to 13.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (Maximum attendance 9 sessions). Each physician should claim only those hours of credit actually spent in the educational activity.

Who qualifies? Medical doctors and other health care practitioners such as nurse practitioners, mid-level providers, etc.

A $99 additional CME fee is required to participate in this program.

Social Workers (CEU) We have various workshops that have been approved for Social Work CEUs across every track being offered at the Winter Conference. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for social workers are available through Shepherd University’s Social Work Program, accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and an automatically approved provider in many states. Participants wishing to pursue Social Work CEUs should check their individual state’s CEU licensing requirements to assure acceptance. Social Workers can earn up to 15 CEU Credits (Maximum attendance 10 sessions). Each social worker should claim only those hours of credit actually spent in the educational activity.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT • Establish coordination and cooperation between security and treatment personnel.

A $30 additional CEU fee is required to participate in this program.
